Equipment Sizing and Design - Problems

  • DI Systems tend to be over-designed
  • Ideal flow for primary Ion Exchange 6-10 Gal./Min./Sq.Ft.
  • Ideal flow for polishing 20 Gal./Min./Sq.Ft.
  • At least one full day of operation before regeneration is required (Max 3-7 days to control bacterial growth)
  • Recirculation loop for idle DI units. Recommended flow 5 Gal./Min./Sq.Ft. UV may be included.
  • Minimum 50% freeboard for the Two-Bed DI and 100% freeboard for the Mixed-Bed DI
