The central role of a reverse osmosis machine in water usability

Clean purified water is a key component of the food and beverage industry. Many restaurants have reverse osmosis water filter systems which provide their patrons with the cleanest, best-tasting water possible. To make water safe to drink, local water companies add disinfecting chemicals and chlorine. Reverse osmosis water filter systems improve the taste of water by straining out harsh chemicals normally found in water. The use of a reverse osmosis machine provides a better tasting soft drink, utilizing substantially less soft drink syrup or a combination thereof. It’s also a more economical method for concentrating food liquids than conventional heat-treatment processes. In a commercial food service establishment, two very important pieces of equipment are ice machines and hot water or steaming devices. They require specially-treated water from industrial reverse osmosis systems. This is because when water undergoes a phase change from liquid to solid (ice) or vapor (steam), it leaves behind any dissolved minerals. When water is saturated with these minerals, it precipitates out as scale. In reverse osmosis, fluids are driven, under pressure, through a tight semi-permeable membrane capable of retaining most dissolved salts and molecule-sized particles. In the food industry, dewatering is done for preservation. One advantage of dewatering is that less material is involved in processing. Reverse osmosis water filter systems like this can also be used in coffee, tea, and beverage dispensers in restaurants and fast-food establishments. This is ideal because as the water flows through this membrane—leaving behind contaminants, bacteria, and suspended materials which are flushed away—the result is purified water which is stored in pressurized holding tanks for future use.
